From Archbishop Jackels and the Bishops of Iowa: There will not be public Masses this weekend in the parishes of the Archdiocese of Dubuque nor in the other dioceses in the State of Iowa. In a joint statement the four Iowa bishops continue the restrictions we have in place including the suspension of public Mass.
They again repeated that Catholics throughout Iowa are NOT bound by the obligation to attend Sunday Mass during this time.
Epiphany Parish will continue livestream Mass at 4 p.m. on each Saturday evening.
When Will Mass Begin Again? "We do not know" is the honest answer. Though the Governor of Iowa has allowed for some re-opening of churches and religious services, the Catholic Iowa Bishops have chosen to wait longer to better assure the safety and health of our people, especially those who are more vulnerable to the COVID virus.
We are doing a lot of background work in our parishes here to be ready for a return to Mass. There are many new responsibilities associated with beginning public celebrations of the Mass such as social distancing requirements and much more. It will mean changes for all of us, but we will keep working to get there.
